Sort of is the answer, you can do it via the network port to serial com adapter (software) - the usb still doesn't work (no 64 bit support for the usb hardware chip used as far as I can tell).
Also the network port mapping software had to be re-downloaded from the guys who wrote it - you need the latest version not the one on the pulsar site. Its free though so not an issue. One thing I have found though is it sometimes seems to forget the network ip address to com port mapping and you need to remap. Not sure whats going on there.
Cheers Chris

Just a handy hint for anyone else playing in the 64 bit world. I have xpmode installed in my 64 bit windows 7. This lets me start up a 32bit xp virtual session. I can attach the pulsar2 usb device using the vm menu and then run all of the software. This got me out of trouble when i placed the pulsar 2 in upgrade mode - no way you are getting out of that on 64bit windows 7. I was however able to install the programming software in the 32 bit vm and do the upgrade there.
As an aside I think the USB drivers are coming from the programming software - the inf file provided simply points to a driver file that is installed as part of that package. As the programming package is only 32bit then you have no chance to get a 64 bit driver until the guys that write the programming package do an upgrade for 64 bit. From reading their forums this is not likely any time soon.
Chris

Hi Chris
Do I assume then that it will work, i.e. Pulsar2 USB, Commander etc (not SamProg) with a WIndows 7 32bit system? Andras is against using WIn 7 at all and I can't blame him for that since he is right that new OS software can be a minefield until the bugs are sorted and everybody catches up. The trouble is that it's getting to the state where is it very difficult to buy a laptop that isn't Win 7 these days, and if you can the choice is limited.
Are there any other 'known' Astro programs that don't work with Win 7 32/64bit? The main programs that I would be using include MaxIm, The Sky 6, Telescope API plug in for The Sky 6, Ascom, POTH, Pinpoint, FocusMax and CCDAutoPilot. I am sure that all the big names will, but if anybody knows of anything that definitely doesn't I would be interested to hear.
Regards
Peter

Not sure about 32 - problems with windows 7 often come down to the UAC aswell - driver signing tha kind of thing. I have gone 64 bit and can use everything so far - all the stuff you list is fine I think for 64. As you point out, these days is windows 7 or nothing and the 64bit gives you loads more memory top play with - especially when processing images. Chris PeterC wrote: Hi Chris

Hi Chris
If everything else works it's a shame the Pulsar2 USB doesn't. I think Andras will have to address this issue at some point because it won't be long before everyone and their dog will be using 64bit operating systems.
Can you expand a little about how your LAN method works? Do I assume that this involves using the computer LAN port as well as the one on the Pulsar2? If so that's probably a non starter for me as the laptop LAN port is linked to my home network. That's because I run the whole system from the warmth and comfort of my study using remote desktop via the LAN connection.

Peter

The Pulsar 2 has a lan port. Attach it to your home network. Use the software to map the ip to a com port (same as mapping usb to a com post). Job done.
