G41 configurations

survey of the different possibilities in use of our Gemini G41 mounts

ECLIPTICA itself uses three Gemini G41 heavy duty mounts.

Besides we have delivered additional mounts to customers during the past years.

Here are some impressions of the different configurations and infinite possibilities.

You will also find some avi-movies of how we are using the G41 mount.

Some setups of G41-G42 in observatories:

Ecliptica founder Peter Pulles has his own G41 at a carport roof observatory.

It carries a C11, a 120mm F10 maksutov and a 80mm F6 apo and lots of accessories.
All this payload is no problem at all for the mount.

The G41 is fully remotely controlled from the inside!

On these sites you can see some demo movies about the Gemini mount:

One of our Ecliptica G41 mounts is furnished with a universal versatile dovetail system, the System 70 of Astro Systems Holland custom equipment.

On this System 70 dovetail, any infinite combination can be placed. A good deal of the Ecliptica scopes and mounts are fitted with the same dovetail system so any scope and camera can be fitted on any mount.

Here is an example of the Piggyback unit/astrocamera unit:

Piggy back unit with 100mm/f1000/F10 Maksutov with OM1 camera + RR 83/500 achromatic refractor guiding scope with 2x barlow and OR12,5 Baader Micro Guide crosshair-eyepiece. Instead of the Maksutov, a Hasselblad 500 C/M camera with three different Carl Zeiss lenses can allso be attached via the same System 70.

we can allso use a C11 on this mount:

On the terrace there is another G41 with an C11 with 9x60 finder, metal dewcap, 2 inch JMI NGFC-M Motorfocus with DRO, Vixen 2"Flip Mirror, etc.

use during daytime observing of sun and Venus:

On the C11 we did some experimentation with an improvised attachment of a Piggy back unit on top.
We had to put some extra weight on the counter axis.
But the mount has no problem at all in carrying an extremely heavy load like this!

That was the prelude of changing the C11 to a C14!

Our C11 has been sold and a C14 was taken over from our colleague Henk Prein from Pegasus Observatory.

It runs wonderful on the G41.

more pictures of a G41 with a C14 SCOPE

This is configured for automated operation and remote control by Gemini PULSAR

Here is a picture of the C14 which was on the G41 from our good friend Henk Prein

from Pegasus Observatory:

The Pegasus colleagues have replaced it for a

Meade 16 inch SCT on their G41 now!

It is running perfectly despite the considerable tubeweight of 40 kg!

some other scopes on another G41 in use at Ecliptica (we kind of like this mount, thats why we have three!)

polar alignment looks tougher then it is ;-)

In fact it takes only about ten minutes to have a very accurate alignment, accurate enough to do prime focus classic astrophotography with long exposure.

We have had a ATM custom built 150 mm /f1500 RR-aluminium refractor
on the G41 as well:

and what about this: a 200mm (!) F5 refractor on the G41!

And here is another happy owner, Rinus Rekkers, with a beautifull blue metallic G41
with a RR156-750 ATM rich field scope

The mount is fitted on to a Gemini GHS tripod pillar

during set up there were three G41's on the terrace, what a lovely sight....

The flashy blue G41 at Rinus' home. It is provided with a universal quick release dovetail system from ASH Holland.

Rinus has his own custom made aluminium gold anodized 150mm F5 rich field refractor as main instrument on the G41:

For mobile purposes, the G41 can be placed on a heavy and sturdy old but good Polarex wooden tripod with a custom made mounting plate.

This configuration was used on location in France at Observatoire SIRENE:

There, with help of Astrosnap Software PE-measuring function and Polar Alignment function, we determined the accuracy on +/- 4 arcseconds without (!) PE-correction.

(with PEC it would have been under 4 " but we didn't bother because 3" was good enough for visual). The Polar alignment was accurate until 0,002 arc minute!
