Software for Imaging Source Astronomical Cameras

Each astronomical CCD camera from Imaging Source contains a driver sofware as well as the operating program IC Capture.AS. Both softwares are made for Windows 2000 and XP.

IC WDM DCAM TIS - Driver for FireWire Astronomical Cameras

The driver IC WDM DCAM TIS is used to operate the Imaging Source astronomical cameras under Windows® 2000 and Windows® XP. With this driver the cameras are DirectX compatible. This allows you to use the cameras with any DirectX compatible astro-imaging software.

DirectX® 9.0c or better

IC Capture.AS - Operating Software

IC Capture.AS was developed by The Imaging Source specifically for their astronomical cameras. The software is included with each astronomical camera. IC Capture.AS allows you to:

set and change all camera parameters,
view a live image from the camera
select single frames and save them as BMP or JPG file,
save sequences of single frames as automatically numbered BMP or JPG files,
save film sequences free of compression losses as AVI files for further processing with e.g. RegiStax.

Please keep in mind that the system should have the same standard as a DTP or video computer (fast processor, separate fast hard drive for storing data) especially when recording fast sequences of frames.

Recording AVI Files

With IC Capture.AS you can download and save the stream of frames coming from the camera directly as an AVI file. There are two different ways to do this:

For compressed AVI files without data loss select one of the Codecs offered by your operating system, e.g. DivX.
For non compressed AVI files select one of the codecs supplied by Imaging Source (uncompressed Y800, uncompressed RGB24, uncompressed RGB32, uncompressed UYVY).

Compatible Softwares:

RegiStax (Windows®)

RegiStax is able to read non compressed AVI files generated with the IC Capture.AS software (see "Recording AVI Files").

Astro IIDC (Mac OS)

The Astro IIDC software can be used to operate all Imaging Source FireWire astronomical cameras with Mac OS.

Accessories for Imaging Source FireWire Cameras

Power Supply:

When using the camera with a 6/6 pin FireWire cable (see below) on your computer you do not require a separate power supply.

When using a laptop PC you instead need an external power supply. In this case you require the 6/4 pin cable (see below) and one of the two following power supplies that are connected to the Cinch jack on the FireWire cable.

	12V Cigarette Lighter Cable ( fits the FireWire cable 6/4 pins ) .................... Euro 19.- This cable connects the camera to a car lighter port, power tank or stationary power supply with a compatible port. It is used with the 6/4 pin FireWire cable (see below)
	12V Power Supply for 220V ( fits the FireWire cable 6/4 pins ) ............................. Euro 29.- If you have power socket available you can use this 12V power supply. It is connected to the 6/4 pin FireWire cable (see below). These are the main specificatoins: - primary 230V/50Hz AC - secondary 3/6/9/12V DC - 6 different cinch jacks supplied - polarity can be switched

Cables & Electronic Adapters:

	Firewire Cable 6/6 Pins (1.8m length) ...................................................................Euro 19.- Item No. CA-1394-66/3 A desktop PC is able to provide power to the camera if it has a 6/6 pins firewire port. Power is supplied through this Firewirecable. If your desktop does not have a Firewire port, see below. If you have a notebook with a Cardbus adapter which is powered by the notebook, you can use this cable as well.
	Firewire PCI Card for desktop PC .......................................................................Euro 54.- Item No. PCI / 1394o1 This card can be installed in your computer if you do not yet have a firewire port. You will need the 6/6 cable to connect the camera to the fire wire slot of your PC.
	Firewire Cable 6/4 Pins with separate Cinch power jack (2m length) .......................Euro 45.- Item No. CA-1394-64/PJ/2 A laptop PC is unable to provide power to the camera through the FireWire cable. Instead most laptops have a 4 pin firewire port. Power is then supplied through a separate Cinch jack. For this we suggest the power supply solutions shown above. Another possibility is to use a PCMCIA FireWire Cardbus adapter, shown below, which provides power to the camera from the laptop. In that case you do not need an external power supply.
	CardBus Adapter Card for Laptop Computers .......................................................Euro 69.- Item No. for the CardBus Adapter: CBI/1394o1 Another way to connect your camera to a laptop is through the PCMCIA slot which most laptops have. This adapter card has a 6 pin FireWire port, so there is no need for an external power supply. In this case you need the 6/6 pin cable shown above. NOTE: THIS IS AN ORIGINAL 'THE IMAGING SOURCE' SPECIAL FIRE WIRE BUSCARD, WHICH PROVIDES 12V POWER TO THE CAMERA. ORDINARY CARDS FROM OTHER SUPPLIERS DO NOT WORK. NO RESPONSABILITY WHATSOEVER IS ACCEPTED FOR ANY OTHER CARD THEN THE ONE MENTIONED AND OFFERED HERE.
	belangrijke toelichting!!! Er is 12v voeding nodig voor gebruik van deze firewirecamera's. Bij een desktop is er een "grote" 6/6 fiwi aansluiting, die wordt intern gevoed met 12v. Hierop kan de camera via een fiwi 6/6 kabel direct aangesloten worden. Op een laptop zit een 4/6 "kleine" fiwipoort. Die is niet 12v gevoed. Om op een laptop toch de camera te kunnen aansluiten moet er extern 12v voeding zijn. Dat kan alleen met een pcmcia fiwi-kaart met 6/6 fiwi poort uitgang en een 12v voeding input (vanaf een externe netwerkadaptervoeding. Om een fiwi kaart in een laptop te plaatsen moet de laptop met een pcmcia slot uitgerust zijn. Die zijn volgens de huidige standaarden echter vrijwel niet meer leverbaar (evenals dat er geen XP meer mee geleverd wordt). Onze optie om het op te lossen: Kies voor de laptop een geschikt docking station waarop wel een 6/6 fiwi aansluiting en/of een pcmcia slot zit, dan kun kun je hetzij de camera direct aansluiten mits de 6/6 fiwi poort gevoed is met 12v (even nagaan, meestal wel) hetzij via een geschikte extern gevoede fiwi kaart in de pcmcia slot steken. De benodigde fiwi kaart is overigens een speciale uitvoering, die zijn nauwelijks te vinden in de reguliere handel (waarschijnlijk omdat fiwi en de camera speciale specs hebben/vereisen). Daarom levert de camerafabrikant zelf ook fiwi kaarten en kabels etc. Wij leveren die dan uiteraard ook vanaf de camerafabrikant zodat de werking gegarandeerd is.

Adapters en filters: (only to be ordered in combination with camera)

			Adapter C-T2 ......................................Euro 35.- Aadapter with C-mount male thread to connect to camera and T2 female thread to connect to any T2 threaded accessories
			Adapter T2-50.................................Euro 35.- Adapter with T2 male thread, (fits in C-T2, see above) and 2" nosepiece barrel to fit in 2" focusser, flip mirror, etc. Optical length when inserted is ONLY 3mm!
			Adapter C-125...................................Euro 30.- 1,25" nosepiece barrel with C-mount male thread, fits directly to camera so that it can be put in any 1,25" focusser, prism, diagonal, etc.
			IR Blocking filter .............................Euro 30.- Multicoated infrared blocking filter to be used in the C-125 nosepiece adapter. Optional accessory for DMK and DBK camera's (DFK camera's have an integrated IR-blockingfilter allready installed).
